AITKEN to WHAITE
AITKEN to WHAITE
by Philip H Whaite
Introduction
SCOPE
This web presentation includes both my mother (Aitken) and father (Whaite) family trees. Many branches that converge with or diverge from these trees are also included.

This version of my family database, is dated September 2022.

Updating information is a continuing process involving reviewing, expanding and improving accuracy.

Also included are some small, separate trees of families, who may relate to the main tree or the tree contain friends of persons on the main tree. These trees have been retained, both for their research value and the possibility that a connection might be found in the future.

PRIVACY
Some entries are marked private. This includes people born less than 100 years ago with no death date recorded. Where documents or pictures are marked as sensitive they are not shown in this report.

PLACE NAMES
The locations quoted are, in general, where events were registered which may differ from where they occurred. If full record details are known the specific location of that event is quoted. As location names change, from time to time, the current or recent names are used in preference to historical ones if this is appropriate or practical. This was done in the hope that each location has only one description.

Locations are stored in up to four levels, for right to left and broadly conform to the following but vary from country to country. The more precise the location is known the more levels are entered.

Level 1 - The country
Level 2 - State or county or region
Level 3 - County, region, shire, city, town or parish
Level 4 - town, suburb or parish

DATES
Where date information is only known to be in a quarter of a year the last month of that quarter is entered in date field. Source references for these entries generally show that date is in a particular quarter.

REFERENCES
Accurate and detailed source references are important and where ever possible document sources are attached and details given.

Specific mention is given to my Aunt, Joy Whaite, who has researched the Aitken, Argent, Stevens and Whaite families for many years. Her work provided a foundation for this family record and much detail information, see whaitefamily.com. Other primary sources of family tree branches are from Louise Argent and her father, John, in England, for the Argent family and from Robert Hodges, of Sydney, for parts of the Scott & Truman families. My mother, Janet Argent Aitken, gave me some notes about family in her latter years, which provided clues to research, in particular the Hart, Bray, Buchanan, Whitehouse, Buxton and Sherborne branches that I have included. The birthday book of Mary Wilson Walker, my Great Grand-father Thomas Hudson Aitken’s third wife, also gave me names and dates of the Walker, McGavin and Hudson families which I used to expand those branches. I have also expanded known details in many other branches by adding generations and supplementary information.

For other than the primary sources mentioned above I have endeavoured to credit whenever information was obtained from other researchers by an acknowledgement in the appropriate branch at the earliest individual in that branch obtained from that researcher.

This edition has many references marked as follows

☆ indicating transcripts of original fiche or documents are attached
★ indicating certified copies or photographs of original fiche or documents are attached
⬆ indicating information personally copied from original or ⇧ from transcript
This feature will be progressively added as references are reviewed.

PHOTOGRAPHS
The photographs of the Argent Branch are from John Argent as are some of James Hudson Aitken and Elizabeth Ruth Argent and family. Those of Robert Christie Aitken’s and many of Thomas Hart Aitken’s family were provided by Leah Myer. Coral Brann provided a family picture of Thomas Hudson Aitken and family which are marked sensitive and not for publication. The Scott, Truman, Hiscock and Thwaite families photographs were from Robert Hodges and those of the Parker family came, via Joy Whaite. Whaite photographs of the Sarah Grant branch came via Pat Clarke.

This web presentation of family data was generated by a “Web Project” report from a Reunion 13 application database.
