They were both sponsored to come here - she as a nursery maid and Billy (as she called him) as a farm hand/labourer. Mary could read and William could read and write. Their parents were Patrick and Mary.
They had come from Ireland - Galway. On the boat they were reported as liking dancing and going to church. They were both in good health and behaved themselves on the way. When they arrived she was 18 and he was 19.
