Dawson was Mary’s surname from her first marriage so what was her maiden surname? One possibility was Jagger as George & Mary had a Mariah JAGGER boarding with them in 1911. A Mary Jagger was found in 1881 census living in Halifax District and born circa 1856, with mother Maria, born circa 1833 in Elland. This fits well with Mariah in 1911, as she was born circa 1833, however, her birth location is recorded as Longwood not Elland. The 1871 census does show Maria as being born in Longwood.
The birth shown for Mary is that of Mary JAGGER and therefore may not be correct. Further there were at least 2 Mary JAGGERs born Halifax circa 1856 and the 2 most likely are referenced here.
Unfortunately no marriage between 1881 and 1890 was found between a DAWSON & JAGGER that would confirm this.
