MemoLocation from 1881 census. In 1901 & 1911 census William gives birth place as Newcastle upon Tyne which is some 15km inland from South Shields and in the adjacent Registration District. Perhaps he was actually born in Newcastle but registered near the family home. Death index gives birth date as 14 MARCH 1876 one year earlier than registration. His brother Samuel was born in March quarter in Essex in 1876 so I believer William’s birth year was actually 1877.
