MemoCan’t ge 100% sure this is correct family but dates and the fact they were born in Wales but later moved to Staffordshire fits well. Head of this family was Jno GRIFFITHS, 50, his wife Mary, 48 and Children Richard,15, Elizabeth, 8 and Mary, 4. There was also a Sarah Lewis, 20 living with them. She is a little older than Sarah Jones but perhaps there is a connection.

Notes for Mary (Spouse 1)

A possibility is that John Griffith was Sarah Jones’ father but was not married to Mary when Sarah was born so Sarah’s mother’s maiden surname, Jones was recorded as Sarah’s surname. Another possibility is that Mary’s maiden name was Griffiths which she used again when she became a widow. or perhaps she never married but daughter Sarah used father’s surname.

Sarah’s mother resided with her at the time of the 1861 census and her names was recorded as Mary Griffiths. This suggests she married, possibly a second time, after the birth os Sarah.
