Above birth details born 14 Apr 1839 Dock Emma father Edward Jeffries, ??? clerk, mother Ann Russell of Dock. Dock is presumably Dock Lane in Dudley. Two points suggest that this is NOT the right Emma. Firstly her father Edward is recorded as Charter Master on Emma’s marriage and secondly Emma was born Brierley Hill which is some 4-5 km from Dock Lane. However it is the best fit of any Emma’s registered 1837-1843, Jefferies or Jeffries.

MemoStill living at 2 Griffiths Yard, Birmingham Street were Emma BLAKENEY, 75, a widow and two of her sons Charles HARRIS, 48 Labourer Brickworks and Henry HARRIS, 36, Carter. Emma’s birth place was recordded as Brileyhill near Stourbrige and her age has increased as her birth date would have been circa 1836. Perhaps she gave her age as younger so as not to appear much older than husband Alfred.
Is Griffiths Yard that of the Griffith family of Alfred’s grandmother?
Death PlaceStourbridge, Worcestershire, England
MemoAge at death recorded as 74 which equates to the latest year of birth recorded in a census. Based on her own entry in 1911 census she would have been around 80 years old in 1916. Finding a definitive birth date would he useful. Perhaps she was never honest about her age until she was a widow as Arthur Blakeney knew she was older than he but not quite as old that she indicated in 1911.
She died at home at 2 Griffiths Yard of senile decay. The occupation of her husband, Alfred [deceased] as an iron worker was recorded. Informant was daughter Amanda WILSON of 36 Norton Road, Stourbridge who was present. Registration occurred on the 13th of March.
