Lucy is recorded as Joseph Leggett’s step-daughter in the 1871 census and she was born over a year before Joseph married Lucy’s mother, Sarah Ann Holborn. Lucy gave Joseph as her father when she married in 1905. In 1881 Lucy is living with he mother in Yorkshire and is a domestic servant. In 1891 she is living in Linthorpe parish in Yorkshire with her “father” Joseph Leggett, who is a widower. Also living there was a John Thomas Holborn, a relation of Lucy and a Lucy Brown who was a niece of Joseph.
