Notes for John (Spouse 1)
Suggested death of John Blower on 30 Aug 1867. [ entry 379 Bailey Street Oswestry reg Sep qtr 1867.6a.402* Cause: Phthisis Pulmonalis 6 months age 34 years Hatter Journeyman Informant x his mark Samuel Parfrey North Castle St Oswestry]

This is NOT the correct John as our John and Mary Emma had three sons, Frederick in 1867, Albert in 1870 and Henry, born in 1873. Henry dies in 1874. The confusion apparently caused by entry in the 1871 census when daughter is recorded as Mary BEARD. This Mary is not Mary Emma as she is listed separately in the 1871 census with John Blower. The 1881 census however has them listed as John & Mary Emma BLOWER.

Who is this Mary BEARD, daughter? It is pretty clear from birth date shown in the 1871 census she is actually Elizabeth BEARD. and her husband Joseph is called John in this census. Elizabeth was informant of husband John’s (Joseph) death and signed as M Beard so appears she was known as Mary. Perhaps Mary Emma was know as Emma to the family!

John BLOWER was a widower when he married Mary Emma. Unfortunately the only entry in the 1861 census that is likely to be John, is in Grenton and indicates he was married but no record of his wife has been found. His occupation was coal miner. After investigating the marriages before 1867 of John Blowers and eliminating most of them the most likely first wife was Ann Phoebe MILLARD [marriage 1859 Q4 Atherstone, volume 6D & page 529]. If she was John’s wife there was a death of a Ann BLOWER in 1862 [Q4 Atherstone volume 6D page 276] and this could be Ann Phoebe.
