MemoTo New Zealand on board the ship Parsee, Robert & Charlotte Walker and family left the United Kingdom, port of Greenock, on the 11 June 1874 and arrived Port Chalmers, Dunedin 4 Sep 1874. Their daughter Elizabeth died at sea in the Atlantic ocean on board on 26 Jun 1874. The family was listed as follows:- Robert Walker (34) baker of Lanarkshire Scotland; Mrs Charlotte Walker (34); James (10); Elizabeth (5) who died at sea; Margaret (3); Alex (8 months).
There were other Walkers on board namely an Elizabeth (54), Marion (22) and baby Elizabeth 6 months also from Lanarkshire. This Elizabeth was almost certainly Elizabeth Hudson, actually aged 61 and Marion Scott and her daughter Elizabeth (father unknown). Marion married William Hudson Walker at Greenhills, New Zealand in September of 1874. The young Elisabeth was raised as a daughter of William and she may have been that however she was born illegitimate as Elizabeth Scott.
On the Parsee was also listed separately a John Walker (18) from Aberdeen, presumably no relation.

Notes for Robert & Charlotte Anna Clementina Marlborough Dundas (Family)
The Parsee was a fine clipper ship of 1281 tons, was built at Greenock in 1869, and was originally intended (as may be implied by her name) for an "India-man." Prior to coming to New Zealand she traded between the Clyde and India, and in the early days made some very fast runs. She completed four voyages to the Dominion, her best run being 84 days to Port Chalmers, port to port.

The information listed under emmigation was from the printed list which would be from computer stored data. Comparing this with listings from the Otago Guardian of 1 Sep 1784 the following was found.
Walker: Robert 34, Charlotte, 34, James 10, Elizabeth 5, Margaret 3 & Alex 8 months.
Alex was actually 11 months old when ship left UK.

Walker: Elizabeth (age illegible but NOT 54, could be 6 or 8 & something), Marion (NOT Maria) 23 & Elizabeth 6 months.
I think it quite likely the first Elizabeth was Elizabeth Walker (Hudson) who would have been nearly 61 when the ship departed Greenock in Jun 1874. This fits nicely with her death certificate saying she lived in NZ 21 years.
Further Marion 23 is I now believe actually Marion Scott, as she had not yet married William Hudson Walker, who was probably already in NZ. The Elizabeth 6 months would be Marion’s daughter born 24 July 1873, so actually 11 months when leaving UK.
Could the ages recorded be the person’s age when the trip was booked this would
explain the understating of the infant ages?
