MemoRegistration printout indicates birth date as 1st January. Birth Place is Invercargill however folio record indicates registration occurred in Riverton. The registration printout does NOT show father’s name and is not the original hand written sheet but a computer text printout. A letter attached to printout indicated that legislation prevented certain information that was collected being printed, that is, to quote, “certain information must be treated as though it was never registered”. Unfortunately no indication is given as what type of information was deleted.-Probably Edward James was not the father and although the child’s name, Thomas Hart, was recorded as the original first and surnames the any name change records are left blank. Perhaps Thomas was adopted by another family! No mention of Thomas is recorded on Catherine’s death record of 1933.

Born as Thomas Hart it is probable he was adopted by another family as it is doubtful that Edward James Hart, Catherine’s husband was the father. No other information has been found about Thomas in New Zealand so probably had a change of name.
Possibly Edward had already died or left Invercargill in 1872 but no further evidence has been found of Edward in New Zealand or Victoria.
