Notes for Abraham ARGENT
Email from John Argent 2 July 2016
I have failed to find a Baptism for Abraham Argent circa 1760 but the Baptism/Burial records for Stambourne between 1757 and 1775 are missing. I suspect he probably was born there. The manner in which he named his children makes me believe his father was called William.
After he married Ann Westley he named their eldest son Edward after her father (having used his father's name already)
Notes for Ruth (Spouse 1)
Email from John Argent 2 July 2016
Ruth Samms birth is just as elusive (as Abraham Argent’s) but I have found that there were Samms/Sams living in the area.
A Phoebe Sams married John Ager on 16th December 1794 they were both from Steeple Bumpstead which raises the question could this have been Ruth's sister. The Samms/Sams spelling is almost certainly at the whim of the Vicar or Parish Clerk at that time.

I have found the possible parents of Ruth Samms, On the 22nd of December 1762 William Samms married Mary Humphreys at St, Mary the Virgin Church in Steeple Bumpstead, However I have not been able to find a baptism for Ruth so far. This could be because the family decided to attend a non-conformist church or possibly moved to another village soon after marriage.
