Notes for Eliza Matilda DIXEY
10171 NOTES:-

One possibility considered was that Eliza’s parents were Charles Wastell Dixey & Lucy as a baptism record is known as 13 SEP 1833 Highgate, St. Michael. However this Eliza was still living with her parents in 1861 in Foster Green shown as DIPEY not DIXEY.

The most likely birth on 11 DEC 1830 and Baptism on 9 JAN 1831 at Newington St. Marys is Eliza DICKSEY whose parents were John & Elizabeth DICKSEY. These parents names fit well with those given on Eliza M O’brien’s death certificate.

If Eliza did come from London one possibility is Eliza Dixey who resided in an orphanage in Lambeth, Surrey, in 1841, which is part of greater London.

There was an Eliza Dixey, born circa 1831 in Middlesex, employed as a servant to a Blackmore family in the 1851 census. It is a possibility the Eliza’s of 1841 and 1851 are the same person and possible she could have migrated to Tasmania well before 1855.

Eliza must have been in Tasmania by 1855 when she married.

Surname shown also as Dixie [DC Eliza 1929, DC Elizabeth Kate 1934, Essie Eliza 1958] and Dixon.
