Harry was at least 56 years, or using birth date given on his death certificate 64 years. It seems he had no significant employment after 1919. As there was no government pension as we know it in 1920 what income he and Daisy had would be limited. Daisy appears to have had some income as she is shown on electoral rolls as an artist.

Notes for Harry WHAITE
There is a quite a progression in Harry’s christian names from Samuel John to John for the birth of his first child with Isabella Hall Thompson in 1877. This is based upon research by Roger Whaite (of Manchester)5396. See his document “THIS IS HARRY WHAITE”. I believe this is the best explanation of Harry’s early years5397. In 1881 Census, his name was the more formal Henry, but by the birth of his first son with Alice Blakeney in 1882, he was John Harry. By the time his second son George was born in 1884, his father was Harry and that was the name he used thereafter.5398

Harry’s death registration gives his mother’s name as Annie Garrow, not Annie Fisher or Annie Harris. Perhaps Harry had claimed this connection to the Garrow family, a family of some fame in legal, literary and artistic circles. Annie was definitely not a Garrow, however, Annie’s first husband was Charles Fisher and his mother was Theodosia Abrams. After Charles father’s death Theodosia married Joseph Garrow in 1812. It is quite possible Harry met Joseph Garrow although he died two years after Harry’s birth. Perhaps Harry, or even last wife, Daisy, heard there was a relationship between Annie and the Garrow family and made the most of it.

Family notes for Harry WHAITE
On Harry’s marriage certificate, to Daisy and his death certificate his mother’s name is recorded as Ann Garrow. The Garrow family being a famous artistic and literary family with connections to many famous artistic figures in the 19th century. Perhaps Harry saw some advantage in suggesting such a connection. His mother was in fact Ann Harris, whose first marriage was to Charles Fisher who was a step-son of Joseph Garrow. So there is a distant connection but not as Harry suggested.5400
Notes for Harry & Alice (Family)
Marriage Notes
Apparently Harry & Alice never married, however is recorded on Alice's death certificate as being married on 3 Feb 1879 at St Johns Church Wolverhampton Staffs. This marriage is not listed in the England marriage index.

Further there is no record of either Harry or Alice applying for a divorce before they married Sarah Grant & Michael Meagher respectively.

It is also apparent that if Harry was the husband of Isabella Hall Thompson neither he nor she sought a divorce prior to later marriages. Perhaps a good reason for Harry to emigrate.
Notes for Harry & Daisy Cavendish (Family)
“It was while living here in February 1905 that he [Harry] was married to Daisy Cavendish Morris by a member of a sect called New Unitarian Church. Daisy was born as Emma Sophia in Muswellbrook in 1872 and her family were graziers around Tamworth, while her brother Eric was the informant on Harry's Death Certificate in 1931. Some time before 1905, Harry had engaged her as a sort of secretary to manage his business affairs and from remarks made by Lilian Whaite, it seems that Daisy after her marriage set about slowly putting into her name most of Harry's properties and possessions.”5401

After researching the Morris family and their properties, mainly near Broke in the Upper Hunter Valley and the property transactions of Harry and Daisy I’ve concluded Lilian’s remarks were wrong. Further, in a conversation I had with Harry Whaite [1912-2011], Liliian’s eldest son, he indicated his mother could be rather biggeted in her attitudes at times. Harry also said he had little contact with with his grand father as he and his parents lived interstate until the late 1920s. He did recall having a meal with Grandfather Harry and Daisy when his parents moved from Brisbane to Melbourne. My research [summarised in PDF “Harry & Daisy Whaite Properties”] show Harry having a mortage on the Paddington property until 1913 when it was discharged. This about the time Daisy’s mother, Emma, came to stay with Harry and Daisy. Emma was the owner of the family assets after her husband died in 1910. I think it most likely Emma paid off the mortage and may have also help finance Harry and Daisy’s European trip in early 1914. In 1925 a property in Park Street, Bondi, was puchased with a mortage by Daisy and in 1926 the Paddington property was transferred to Daisy with proviso that she give Harry an annuity of £39 to Harry for the rest of his life. This seems a reasonable arrangement as Daisy was some 17 years younger than Harry who was then over 70 years old.[ P H WHAITE]5402
