James Hudson AITKEN army 9526081
This record shows discharged 1936. However her actually retired circa 1950. He was stationed at HQ Victoria Barracks during WW2. The third page however shows 7 May 1948 as Capt. (quartermaster) and doesn’t show a later discharge date and he had rank of Major. In retirement he was always referred to as “The Major”.
Found James’ medals on NOBLE Auction SOURCE:
www.noble.com.au/site/docs/cats/sale_121/A12.pdfThis gives army record detail as per card above. This also suggests retired as Captain but he was always called Major. Haven’t found anything to confirm this. The Highlander Magazine (NSW Scottish Regiment) of July 1938 announced the engagement of the daughter of Adjutant Lieut. Aitken this is after permanent forces discharge in September 1936.
Somehow medals were lost to family. Janet Whaite didn’t see medals after her father’s death.
