Migration Date18 Apr 191364
Migration PlaceLyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand
MemoIs this our Aitken family from NZ only 4 days after Thomas & Maud married in Christchurch? On the 18 Apr 1913 the “Manuka” left NZ for Sydney arriving 22 April 1913 On board, from Lyttlelton, were Mr & Mrs Aitken, 48 & 46. With them were four male children aged, 18, 16, 14 & 10 and two females 21 and 19. Actually Thomas Hudson was 46, Maud, 37, Robert Scot, 15, James Hudson, 21, Robert Christie, 17, Edith Lilias, 15, Thomas Hart, 13 and Elizabeth Beatrice, 8. So ages record don’t fit well. Further it is almost certain that Thomas Hart stayed in NZ and it is likely James arrived in Sydney a few days before his marriage to Elizabeth Argent in Randwick in 1914 but it is possible that both Thomas Hart & James Hudson returned to NZ and Thomas remaining there with James returning to Sydney after a short stay..

MemoUntil 1924 Thomas and Maud had moved to a house named "Opawa" in Heath Street Randwick by 1919 as most of their children had moved out. Only Robert Charles Scott and Elizabeth Beatrice remained. It is unlikely that Thomas' son Thomas Hart Aitken ever lived in Australia, he joined the New Zealand Army in 1917 and after his army service, in Europe, he returned to New Zealand.
